Documentation conventions

The following table lists the documentation conventions used in this guide.

Convention Meaning
bold In text, specifies a user interface element.
italic
  • In code and syntax, specifies a variable value that you supply
  • In text, specifies a reference or link to another resource
underlined Specifies a default value.
monospaced font Specifies system input or output, for example:
  • method or message names
  • method signatures
  • examples
[square brackets] Specifies an optional parameter.
smile.example.com:port Specifies the URL of your Smile implementation.
stage Specifies the database of your Smile implementation. For example, live or test.
