Terminate a contract

Terminating a contract ends the contract before its scheduled end date. If you terminate a contract, Smile may raise an early termination charge against the subscription. The early termination charge is displayed on the subscription's Subscription Contract page.

Warning: Ensure you terminate, rather than delete, an unwanted contract. Deleting a contract permanently removes the contract from the Smile database. To avoid data loss, we recommend that you delete only new contracts that were created in error.

This task explains how to terminate a contract, including how to terminate a contract without raising early termination charges.

  1. Search for the subscription for which you want to terminate the contract, then double-click the subscription entry in the search results.
The subscription's summary page appears and displays the name of the current contract.
  2. Click View Contract.
The Subscription Contract window is displayed.
  3. Review the information on the page and update it as necessary.
For example, you may need to change the value of the Minimum termination charge field to $0.
  4. Click Terminate...
The Terminate Contract window is displayed.
  5. Review the early termination charge and termination date, and click Terminate.
Smile terminates the contract and, if necessary, opens an invoice for the value of the early termination charge.
  6. (Optional) Click Delete next to the early termination charge, then click Delete.
Smile removes the early termination charge and deletes the invoice.
