Protected accounts

A protected account is an account that lets you log in to Smile (an account with a Smile access subscription). Each operator has a Smile access subscription and a protected account. You cannot view any password on a protected account.

Protected accounts enhance the security of your Smile login. Because many people use the same password for multiple subscriptions, hiding only the password of your Smile subscription is not enough to protect your login credentials. If another operator viewed the password of your other subscriptions, they may be able to guess the password of your Smile subscription. To solve this problem, Smile hides the password for each subscription on a protected account.

You cannot recover the password for a subscription on a protected account. You must request a new password instead. If you remove the Smile access subscription from a protected account, the account remains protected. If you migrate a Smile subscription to a different account, both the target and source accounts are protected.

You can also create a service to protect the passwords on sensitive customer accounts. When you add a subscription of this service type to an account, Smile hides the passwords for all subscriptions on the account. To create a service that protects passwords for selected customers, tick the Password protection checkbox when you create a service.

Note: For more information about creating services, see the Configuration Guide.
